Can Muse make phone calls?
Calling a restaurant or a contractor is one of the errands people most want an agent to handle. Meta has tested exactly that with Muse, including a version where humans quietly made the calls. Here’s where the feature stands, and what businesses can do if they don’t want the calls.
Quick answer
Not for most people yet. Meta says it’s experimenting with letting Muse phone businesses that have public numbers, to ask about opening hours or make a booking. In a September test, some of those calls were actually made by human contractors, and Meta pulled back, saying it will launch the feature only “when it’s ready and with the proper disclosures.” On our account in October, Muse said it couldn’t make calls. Businesses can opt out with a Meta form.
How we checked
TestedWe asked Muse what it can do on our account (WhatsApp, October 3, 2026). Meta’s Help Center, checked October 6. ReportedReuters’ September reporting. See how we label evidence.
Where the feature stands
- What Meta says
- “We’re also experimenting with the ability for Muse to make phone calls on your behalf to businesses whose phone numbers are publicly available,” for example to ask about opening hours or make a booking.1
- On our account
- TestedIn October 2026, Muse said it can’t make phone calls or hold live voice conversations.
- Who had it
- ReportedMeta employees tested calling from August, and it “gradually started rolling it out to Muse users in the days after the app’s debut,” Reuters reported.2
How Muse’s calls worked in testing
ReportedAccording to Reuters, you could ask Muse to dial a US business and talk to the person who answers: booking a haircut, checking whether a store has an item, or getting quotes from contractors. Afterwards, Muse showed a summary and a transcript of the call in the app.2
The human-caller test
ReportedReuters reported that Meta tested a “human concierge,” with contractors quietly handling some of the calls users asked Muse to make. A Meta vice president called starting it without proper disclosure “a miss,” and the arrangement was rolled back. A Meta spokesperson said: “We’re working with merchants to continue improving this potential calling feature, and will only roll it out when it’s ready and with the proper disclosures.”2
For businesses: opting out of AI calls
Meta’s Help Center page for people who don’t use Muse says: “If you’d prefer that your business not receive these AI phone calls, you can opt out using this form.”1 Use Meta’s AI phone call opt-out form. More on how Muse handles people who don’t use it: support routes.
What to do in the meantime
- Let Muse prepare the call: ask it to find the number, opening hours and what to ask, then call yourself.
- Book online instead: Muse can use websites and connected apps, with your approval. What it can do.
- Talking to Muse by voice is a separate, announced feature. Status.
