Muse vs Gemini Spark: Meta’s and Google’s agents compared

Google shipped Gemini Spark in May; Meta answered with Muse in September. Both are personal agents that keep working when you close the app and ask before risky steps. They split on price, on who can get them, and on whose apps they live in.

Quick answer

Both are background agents that ask before risky actions. Muse (Meta) has a free plan, works on the web, phone, Mac and in WhatsApp, and is available only in the US and Canada. Gemini Spark (Google) needs a paid Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) or Ultra plan, lives inside Gmail, Docs, Drive and Chrome, and works in far more countries (not the EEA, UK, Switzerland or Nigeria). Pick Muse to try an agent free in North America; pick Spark if your life runs on Google and you’re elsewhere.

The differences that matter

  1. Cost to start. Muse is free to try; Spark needs a paid Google AI plan.
  2. Where you live. Muse stops at the US and Canada. Spark reaches most Gemini countries, though Google’s update log confirms Pro-plan access only in the US (in English); outside the US, check your plan.4
  3. Whose apps. Spark is strongest inside Google’s own apps and Chrome, where you’re already signed in. Muse runs on its own cloud computer and reaches Google apps through connectors, plus WhatsApp and Meta’s apps.
  4. Privacy trade-offs. Spark requires Gemini’s Keep Activity setting to be on.3 Muse has an AI-training switch that’s on by default; you can turn it off. TestedIt was on in our account.10

Safety warnings from each company

TestedIn our test, Muse stopped and asked before sending an email (see the prompt). Per MetaMeta says Muse “can make mistakes or take unexpected actions” and recommends starting with low-risk tasks.11 Google says the same kind of thing about Spark: it warns of prompt injection, tells users not to type sign-in or payment details into a task, and says “your active supervision is the most important way to protect against risk.”3 Muse also had security problems reported in its first weeks; see Is Muse safe?

Frequently asked questions

Is Gemini Spark free?

No. Google says you need a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription; Pro costs $19.99 a month in the US. Muse has a free plan with a weekly limit.356

Which is available in more countries, Muse or Gemini Spark?

Gemini Spark. Google says it isn’t available in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland or the UK, but works in other places Gemini Apps are supported. Muse is limited to the US and Canada.3

Is Muse or Gemini Spark better?

It depends on your apps. Gemini Spark works inside Google’s world (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Chrome). Muse connects to Google apps too, plus Meta’s own apps and WhatsApp, and it’s free to try. Neither company publishes a head-to-head test, and we’ve tested only Muse.

Do Muse and Gemini Spark ask before acting?

Both say so. Google says Spark asks for confirmation before sending communications, changing data, buying things or submitting forms. In our test, Muse stopped and asked before sending an email.3
