Muse with Instagram and Facebook: what it can do
Muse is Meta’s agent, so it plugs into Meta’s own apps more deeply than anything else: some of them connect on their own. Here’s what Muse can do with Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Messenger, what Meta has said for creators and businesses, and how to keep it in check.
Quick answer
Muse works with seven of Meta’s own apps: Facebook, Instagram, Instagram Messages, Messenger, Threads, Threads Messages and Meta Business Manager. Facebook, Instagram and Threads connect automatically if they’re in the same Accounts Center as your Meta account. Muse can draft and post content, read insights for professional accounts and Pages, and, for creators, flag collaboration offers and suggest strategy. Meta says nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval.
How we checked
TestedWe checked the connector list on our own account (September 30 and October 7, 2026) and asked Muse in WhatsApp what it can do (October 3). We don’t publish which accounts are connected on our account. The rest comes from Meta’s Help Center and announcements, and Instagram’s creator announcement as reported. See how we label evidence.
Which Meta apps Muse connects to
| Connector | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Your profile and Pages; connects automatically via Accounts Center1 | |
| Your account, and analytics for professional accounts; connects automatically12 | |
| Threads | Your Threads account; connects automatically1 |
| Instagram Messages, Messenger, Threads Messages | Direct messages, as separate connectors |
| Meta Business Manager | Business tools; Meta lists Meta ad accounts among what Muse can connect2 |
TestedAll seven were in the connector list on our account on September 30 and October 7, 2026. Full connector list. WhatsApp is different: it’s a chat channel for talking to Muse, set up under Messaging channels. Muse in WhatsApp.
The automatic connection
“Three of these – Facebook, Instagram and Threads – are connected automatically if you have your accounts in the same Accounts Center.”1 That’s the opposite of every other connector, which you add yourself. If you’d rather Muse not see one of these accounts, manage it in Accounts Center, which Meta names as the place to control the link.1
What Muse does for Instagram creators
ReportedInstagram’s creators account announced that, once a creator approves access to their Instagram information, Muse can:3
- give strategy recommendations and tips;
- flag collaboration opportunities and compare offers with industry averages;
- put together a creative playbook for your Instagram strategy;
- summarize your account and recent actions;
- set regular reminders.
Creators can also just ask Muse what it can help with. Social Media Today, which reported the announcement, noted the risk side: an agent that posts could also post something that breaks Instagram’s rules, which is why approvals matter.3
What Muse does for Pages and businesses
With Muse for Small Business (September 29, 2026), “Muse can connect your Instagram professional account analytics, Facebook Pages, and Meta ad accounts in a few clicks.” Meta’s examples include sales analysis, ad and content optimization and drafting replies, and it promises: “Nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval.”2
Posting and messages: what needs your OK
- Publishing, sending and spending need your approval.2
- TestedMuse says the same. When we asked in WhatsApp what it could do, Muse listed posting to connected accounts and said it can’t post or act on accounts “without your explicit approval first.”
- Check your permission level. Settings → Permissions controls whether Muse asks for some actions or always asks. What an approval looks like.
Privacy points to know
- ReportedPeople you follow are among those Muse’s instructions say to keep pages on, per WIRED’s reporting. Details.
- Messages include other people. Connecting Messenger or Instagram Messages can give Muse access to conversations with people who never chose Muse.
- AI training on your Muse interactions is controlled separately, in Settings → Data controls. How to turn it off.
- Muse Image is separate. The July controversy over Instagram photos was about Meta’s image generator, not the agent. What changed.
