Is there a Muse API? Using Muse Spark through Meta’s Model API

Developers searching for a “Muse API” find two different things. Muse, the personal agent, has no public API. Meta’s Model API sells the models behind it: Muse Spark, Muse Image and Muse Voice Transcribe. Here’s how to get a key, what each model costs, and the limits.

Quick answer

Muse, the personal agent, has no public API. What developers can use is the Meta Model API (dev.meta.ai), which sells the models behind it. These are muse-spark-1.3 for text, images, video and PDFs in, text out, plus muse-image-1.0 and muse-voice-transcribe-1.0. It works with the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs once you point them at https://api.meta.ai/v1. Muse Spark costs $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. Create a key in the dashboard under API keys.

How we checked

Not testedWe haven’t made API calls ourselves. Everything here comes from Meta’s developer documentation, checked October 8, 2026. See how we label evidence.

The agent vs the models

Muse, the app that does tasks for you, has no API in Meta’s developer docs. They cover the Model API (models you call from your own code) and Muse Code, a coding agent you run in a terminal, not over an API.1 To connect your own service to the Muse agent, Muse supports connectors, including custom ones. Custom connectors.

Per MetaAudio understanding in Muse Spark 1.3 “is currently not fully supported.” Muse Glimmer, Meta’s open model, is self-hosted and isn’t served on the Model API.2

How to get an API key

  1. Sign in to the dashboardPer MetaLog in to the Model API dashboard from dev.meta.ai and open the API keys tab.3
  2. Create the key“Click Create API key, give it a descriptive name, and click Create. Copy the key right away. You only see it once.”3
  3. Store it safelyMeta’s SDK guidance reads the key from the MODEL_API_KEY environment variable. Meta advises one key per app, never in browser code or version control. Keys on the same team share rate limits.3
  4. Point your SDK at MetaBase URL https://api.meta.ai/v1, header Authorization: Bearer $MODEL_API_KEY. It supports a Responses API, an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API and an Anthropic-compatible Messages API. LangChain, LlamaIndex and the Vercel AI SDK also work.56

Meta’s docs don’t mention free credits or country restrictions. Some third-party sites say new accounts get $20 in credit, but we couldn’t confirm that in Meta’s own documentation.

The Contributor tier gets 150 requests and 3 million tokens per minute (raised from 100; seen 2026-10-15), and Muse Image is capped at 150 requests a minute. The Contributor tier gives Meta “permission to use your prompts and completions to train future Meta models.”4 Don’t send customer or confidential data on that tier.

Muse Image and Muse Video

Per Metamuse-image-1.0 uses POST /v1/images/generations to create images and POST /v1/images/edits to edit or combine them, at a flat $0.01 per image.7 Muse Video isn’t on the Model API yet. Meta has called it “coming soon.” Muse Image and Muse Video.

Frequently asked questions

Does Meta’s Muse have an API?

Not the Muse agent. Meta’s developer docs list models, not the agent. What you can use is the Meta Model API, which serves Muse Spark, Muse Image, Muse Voice Transcribe and SAM 3.1.12

How do I get a Muse Spark API key?

Sign in to the Model API dashboard at dev.meta.ai, open the API keys tab and click Create API key. Copy it right away, because Meta shows it only once.3

How much does the Muse Spark API cost?

$1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens, or $0.15 for cached input. A cheaper “contributor” tier ($0.10 and $0.20) lets Meta train on your prompts and outputs.4

Is there a Muse Video API?

Not yet. Muse Video wasn’t in Meta’s model catalog when we checked on October 8, 2026. Muse Image is available as muse-image-1.0 at $0.01 per image.24
