How to use Muse with your email and calendar
Email and calendar are among the first things people hand to Muse. Here’s how to connect Gmail, Outlook or Google Calendar, what Muse can and can’t do with them, how to keep it look-only, and what happens before it sends anything.
Quick answer
Say “Connect my Gmail” (or go to Settings → Connectors), and Muse can search your email, draft replies and keep track of your schedule. It works with Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar, plus contacts. Muse searches your inbox rather than downloading all of it. Many connectors can be set to read-only. By default Muse asks before sending an email or changing your calendar; in our test it showed us the full email and waited.
How we checked
TestedWe checked the connector list on our own account (September 30 and October 7, 2026). We also tested the email approval step by asking Muse to email us and then pressing Deny. Everything else comes from Meta’s Help Center, checked October 8, 2026. See how we label evidence.
How to connect your email and calendar
- Ask, or use SettingsAsk Muse (“Connect my Gmail”), or go to Settings → Connectors, tap Connect next to the service and read the information.1
- Sign in to that serviceYou sign in to Google or Microsoft, not to Muse. For Google, Meta says it follows Google’s user-data policy, “including the Limited Use requirements.”1
- Choose how much it can doWhere the connector offers it, pick look-only access (see below).
TestedAvailable on our account: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Outlook Mail, Outlook Calendar and Outlook Contacts.3 Full connector list.
What Muse can do with them
- Search your email. It “won’t download your whole inbox (unless you tell it to).”1
- Keep up with your schedule. Calendar connectors “can update Muse automatically when there are changes in your schedule.”1
- Draft and send email, and change your calendar, with your approval. Meta lists sending messages and making calendar changes among the actions that ask first.2
Things you could ask (our examples): “Summarize what came in today and flag anything that needs a reply.” “Draft a reply to Sam saying Thursday works, but don’t send it.” “What’s on my calendar next week, and where are the gaps?”
Keep it read-only
“Many Connectors can also be set up so that Muse is only able to retrieve data, but not take actions (like sending a calendar invite).”1 That’s a good starting point for a work inbox or a shared calendar.
What happens before it sends anything
“By default, Muse will not take many important actions, like sending an email, without your approval.”1 Under Settings → Permissions, each connector can be set to “Ask for some actions” or “Always ask.” When Muse asks, you can choose Allow once, Allow for this task, Always allow or Deny.2
TestedWhen we asked Muse to send a test email to ourselves, it stopped and showed the recipient, subject and body for approval. We pressed Deny, and nothing was sent. See the prompt.4
Meta’s warning: “You’re responsible for guiding it carefully and approving its actions.” A sent email can’t be unsent, so read drafts before you approve them.2
Disconnect at any time
Go to Settings → Connectors and disconnect. “Disconnecting stops Muse from exchanging data with the Connector.”1 To remove what Muse already learned, see how to manage your Muse data.

Can Muse read my Gmail?
Only if you connect it. Meta says connecting email lets Muse search your email, “but it won’t download your whole inbox (unless you tell it to).”1
Does Muse work with Outlook?
Yes. On our account the connector list included Outlook Mail, Outlook Calendar and Outlook Contacts, alongside Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts.3
Will Muse send emails without asking?
Can I let Muse see my calendar but not change it?
Yes, for many connectors. Meta says they can be set so Muse “is only able to retrieve data, but not take actions (like sending a calendar invite).”1
